US based developer Cynosure, has launched a revolutionary new laser in the UK. ICON is a fractional non-ablative laser that can significantly improve the appearances of scarring. It can treat all kinds of scarring including stretch marks, acne scarring, burn scars and surgical scars. It also offers a skin rejuvenation procedure which targets all three layers of photo damaged tissue, epidermal pigment and mid-dermal wrinkles. The laser is equipped with the only FDA-approved Skintel melanin reader, which analyses your skin type and transmits vital information wirelessly. Multi-Award winning clinic Juvea Aesthetics, has teamed up with Cynosure to be one of the first in the UK to offer this new treatment.

What causes scarring?

Scars form when the deep layer of your skin (the dermis) is damaged, and your body produces collagen fibres to fuse the skin back together. However the new scar tissue will have a different texture and quality to the surrounding skin, and if your skin produces too much collagen, the scar will be raised. Some scars have a sunken or pitted appearance – this happens when the underlying structures supporting the skin are lost. This is common with acne or surgical scars.

How does ICON laser work?

The non-ablative fractionated laser directs microscopic columns of heat deep into the dermis, leaving the surrounding tissue and epidermis intact. This deep heat triggers a restorative healing response in the skin, stimulating collagen production and allowing the skin to renew itself, gently replacing the scarred skin with fresh healthy tissue. The area blends naturally with the surrounding skin, as if it was never there. Alternative methods of scar removal involve time-consuming creams, painful steroid injections and silicon gel application – yet the results tend to be underwhelming.

Tailored Treatment

Until now, clinicians have had to rely on relatively subjective tools to determine your skin type, but with the Skintel Melanin Reader you’ll receive an incredibly accurate analysis of your skin. Factors such as the pigmentation amount and level of sun exposure will be revealed and automatically programmed by the ICON laser, providing you with the best possible results.
