Laser 2014 will include a special Laser Review and Clinical Pearls activity for residents and fellows on Sunday 6 April as part of the 34th Annual International Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, Inc.
This activity addresses the need for fundamental information and clinical pearls to increase knowledge, competence and performance with lasers used in clinical practice.
‘This course provides a great foundation in lasers and light sources and their practical applications. It is great for residents and fellows, or anyone looking for a refresher in the field,’ said Ashish C. Bhatia, MD, Co-Director.
Dr Bhatia is an assistant professor of clinical dermatology at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and Co-Director at The Dermatology Institute in Naperville, IL. He is an accomplished board-certified dermatologist and an internationally recognised expert in dermatology, dermatologic surgery and cosmetic surgery with expertise in laser surgery for scarring and cosmetic indications.
This activity is exclusively designed for physicians who are residents and fellows that would like to use lasers in their practice.
‘I am thrilled to offer this comprehensive course at no charge to all interested residents and fellows. It is one way to give back to our specialty,’ said Jeffrey T. Hsu, MD, Co-Director. Dr Hsu is currently an assistant professor of medicine (Dermatology) at Dartmouth Medical School and Co-Director at The Dermatology Institute in Naperville, IL. He is a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in laser surgery, leg vein treatments, soft tissue augmentation, and scar revision.
Expected learning outcomes include the basic science of lasers and other related light energy technologies, understanding of laser tissue interactions to achieve desired outcomes, and a discussion of lasers and other light-based energy technologies and their appropriate clinical applications, to name a few.

Dr Kelly Stankiewicz is a board certified dermatologist and Director of Resident and Fellow Education and Research at The Dermatology Institute of DuPage Medical Group in Naperville, IL. At the Dermatology Institute, Dr Stankiewicz continues research pursuits as well as a full-time general dermatologic practice that includes medical, cosmetic and laser dermatology.
